Lafayette Day in Virginia

Saturday, March 14, 2026

Richmond, Virginia

-notice updated January 11, 2026

On February 24, 2015 the Virginia Assembly passed House Joint Resolution No. 797 Designating March 14, in 2015 and in each succeeding year, as a Day of Honor for the Marquis de Lafayette in Virginia.”

We will gather once again, for the 12th time in Richmond, Virginia on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Since Lafayette Day is a Saturday, we have decided to make this a "weekend" celebration.  We are working on a fun event for Sunday morning as well (March 15, 2026.

Save these dates and if need be, book your hotel !!!

The working (tentative) itinerary for March 14th, is:

  • In the morning, we will start with the Lafayette Day ceremony in the Rotunda of the Virginia State House.  The Virginia Statehouse houses the oldest elected legislative body in North America.  We will conduct a wreath laying ceremony in front of Houdon’s Lafayette bust and Washington's statue with French and American dignitaries present.  This is a FREE EVENT.  We will then....
  • ...have a private tour of the Capitol Statehouse. This is a not-to-be missed tour (even if you've done it before).  This is a FREE EVENT.  We will then walk over to….
  • ...the Governor's mansion for a tour of the home to Virginia's governors since 1813, and the oldest governor's residence in the country still used for its original purpose.  This is a FREE EVENT.  We will then walk over to….
  • ...a group luncheon within walking distance of the statehouse (Meriwether's).  This lunch was a HUGE hit in year's past as the chef flexes his culinary muscles with a delicious and authentic French four-course meal, (Mushroom Soup, Salad Nicoise, Coq au Vin, Creme Brulee).  Mark Schneider will perform as Lafayette for us during lunch.
  • We are working on a possible after lunch event, but we know for sure...
  • That evening (3/14/26) we will have a cocktail party at the VERY SPECIAL Virginia Museum of History & Culture.  This will be a great chance to listen to lovely music, eat delectable food, indulge in a libation or two and see this magnificent museum.
  • We are working on an exclusive AFL event on Sunday, March 15th as well.  More to come on this and other details in the coming weeks.

Thank you and vive Lafayette !!
