Although Lafayette did not stop in Essex in 1825, he will stop by for a re-enactment and wreath-laying in the village cemetery for David Day II. Sergeant Day had served with Lafayette in the pivotal Yorktown campaign of 1781, which sealed the American victory. Join us graveside for the emotional story of their reunion in Burlington, where Day presented the sword given to him by Lafayette almost fifty years earlier. Participating in honoring Essex’s Revolutionary War soldiers will be the Burlington Chapter of the DAR and staff
from the Josiah Day House in West Springfield, Massachusetts, the town where David Day II enlisted in 1780 at age 22.
