Marietta potter Nathaniel Clark was an entrepreneur who engaged in several businesses and product development concepts during his lifetime. One of these proved nearly fatal to the esteemed hero of the American Revolution, the Marquis de Lafayette, as he made his way up the Ohio River in 1825. Wesley Clarke, archaeologist with The Castle Museum, will relate the story of the steamboat Mechanic and its sinking one stormy night.
Wesley Clarke is a Registered Professional Archaeologist with over fifty years field work experience in the American Midwest (Ohio, Michigan and Tennessee) and Southeast Asia (Thailand and Cambodia). He is currently on the staff of The Castle Museum in Marietta, Ohio, where he has been excavating the historic Nathaniel Clark pottery site (1808). Clarke is also an adjunct instructor at Marietta College.
