  • 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
  • 10301 Jefferson Davis Hwy North Chesterfield, Virginia 23237

Please join the Richmond SAR in dedicating a historic marker honoring the teenage girl who saved General Lafayette from capture. This event will take place at the Half Way House Restaurant, 10301 Route 1, Richmond VA.

When British General Cornwallis quartered in 16-year-old Susanna Bolling’s home, she overheard him plotting to capture General Lafayette, who was headquartered at the Half Way House, some 15 miles away. Susanna snuck out of her home, rode through the night, and warned Lafayette, who escaped.

This event date also marks the 200th anniversary of Lafayette’s visit to Richmond on his triumphant return tour to the U.S.
